Jaw Narrowness Treatments
Jaw narrowing is a condition in which the upper or lower jawbones are not wide enough for development. It typically occurs in the upper jaw and can cause misalignment of teeth, crowding, breathing problems, and aesthetic problems. If detected in childhood, it can be easily treated by directing growth potential; however, more complex methods may be required in later years.

Who is it suitable for?
Individuals in childhood and adolescence (especially between the ages of 6 and 14)
Patients with crowded or crooked teeth
People with a narrow upper jaw and a V-shaped jaw (narrowness is usually seen in children whose upper jaws do not have a gap between their primary front teeth).
Those who have a habit of breathing through the mouth
Individuals with lower and upper jaw discrepancy
Patients with insufficient jaw width before orthodontic treatment
What is the treatment process like?
- Initial Inspection and Evaluation:
A pediatric dentist performs a clinical and radiological examination. The width of the upper jaw, the position of the teeth, and the jaw closure are evaluated. - Selecting the Appropriate Device:
Depending on the child's age and jaw structure, fixed or removable jaw expansion appliances are planned. - Expansion Period:
The jawbone is expanded in a controlled manner by turning the screw mechanism of the apparatus at certain intervals. - Reinforcement Process:
After the expansion is completed, the appliance remains in the mouth for 3–6 months. This period is necessary for the achieved expansion to be permanent. - Follow-up and Orthodontic Preparation:
Once the jaw is widened, orthodontic treatment (braces, clear aligners, etc.) is initiated if necessary. Follow-up visits are usually monthly.
